Global hunger Index ranks India from 101 position in 2020 to 107 this year which implies rapid increase in terms of hunger and poverty.
To which, senior congress leader P Chidambaram took a dig at Modi Government for the downfall as rank slipped down from previous year in Global hunger index.
India stands at 107th position way behind other neighbouring countries such as Nepal (81), Pakistan (99), Bangladesh (84), Sri Lanka (64).
In terms of severity, GHI scores India a 29.1 which comes under a serious category of hunger.
Adding to that, P Chidambaram tweeted “When will the Hon’ble PM address real issues like malnutrition, hunger, and stunting and wasting among children? 22.4 crore people in India are considered undernourished”.
However, his tweets had some bitter but true facts involved referring to 19.3 per cent of children are wasted, 35.5 per cent of children are stunted. He added “Hindutva, imposing ‘Hindi’Hindi and spreading Hate are not the antidote to Hunger.”
He also enlightened with some facts that our score has deteriorated since 2014 after Modi Government in power as 16.3 percent of all Indians are undernourished implying, they do not get enough food.
India before 2014 was claimed to have lesser scores in terms hunger meaning it was getting better but comparing it with the scores now as they have constantly worsened since then.
Reportedly, the data produced by GHI shows undernourishment in the population went from 14.8 in 2014 to 16.3 in 2022, and the wasting in children has swelled over from 15.1 in 2014 to 19.3 in 2022.
The term undernourishment implies two things involving people with insufficient caloric intake and children wasting under the age of 5 years have low weight for their heights considering them undernourished.
At last CPM leader Sitarama Yechury came in picture reacting to the above report saying the Modi government is disastrous should take responsibility for 8.5 years for the years it has ruled claiming it as “era of darkness”.
