WHO is receiving news and updates on the ongoing monkeypox outbreak in African countries daily? According to the UN report, the disease is an epidemic in these countries.
It has been reported that 30 countries that were non-epidemic have reported more than 550 confirmed cases of monkeypox. The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has informed that the investigations into the cases are ongoing, but due to the sudden appearance of monkeypox cases in so many countries at the same time is suggesting that there might have been an undetected transmission that has been going on for some time.
Most reported cases have been among sexual intercourse between men, people have been informed about the risks and preventive actions so that they can take if they feel like they are suffering from any of the symptoms that might be monkeypox.
As monkeypox spreads due to close physical contact, Tedros urges the people to limit their physical contact with someone who is suffering or might be suffering from the symptoms of the Widespread epidemic. He even says that the symptoms resolve on their own but in severe cases, it can be fatal.
Indian Health Ministry issued guidelines against monkeypox; India has not yet reported any case relating to the widespread epidemic. the health ministry also explains that the laboratory has confirmed the monkeypox virus by detecting unique sequences of viral DNA either by polymerase chain reaction or sequencing.
In the guidelines, it is stated that all clinical specimens should be transported to the Apex laboratory in Pune. Managing the monkeypox disease includes guidelines for isolating the person suffering from the symptoms, stress surveillance, rapid investigation of new cases, reducing human-to-human transmission, and many more.
If a person is feeling sick and has the symptoms of the disease, then they are to be monitored daily from the day the symptoms started for 21 days. Raising risk awareness about the disease is important. People who are coming from countries that are at the center of the disease are to be checked carefully so that they do not transmit the disease into the country.
