India concluded its Common Wealth Games with a medal tally of 61 medals in total; consisting of 22 golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronze medals.
In a concluding match, India showed a spectacular performance by victoriously claiming six medals on the last day. The six medals comprised – four golds, one silver and one bronze medal won by PV Sindhu(also the flag-bearer for the country at CWG 2022), Lakshya Sen. the pair of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and the evergreen Sharath Kamal, all being triumphant in their respective matches.
2022 Commonwealth Games without Shooting
Since the CWG’s inception in 1966, this was the first game without Shooting. Before this in 1970, and then this year CWG was organised without Shooting.
Shooting – A game that has been dominated by India over the years and is also considered the most successful sport CWG in history. In the last edition of the CWG games held in 2018, India had let alone won over 16 medals in Shooting(alone); comprising 7 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. Even in the 2010 medals tally, 30 were from shooting alone, which crystal-clearly displays how much importance Shooting holds for India.
Since the shooting game was not included this time, hence we can only imagine what performance India would have given if only the game was included in the roster.
Comparing India’s performance in CWG 2018 and CWG 2022
- Shooting
Though in the final count, India won five medals less than in the CWG 2018, organised in Gold Coast. Still, India’s performance was spectacular in the 2022 CWG.
For a neck-to-neck comparison between the 2018 and 2022 CWG, the game of Shooting would be excluded from the list of games and ultimately the medal tally. Hence, we would count the total medals without Shooting medals.
In 2018, India won 50 medals in total(excluding medals in Shooting) including 19 gold medals which is less than 2022, 22 gold medals that India won. Hence, showcasing an outstanding performance given by India in 2022.
