Young batter Ayush Badoni is a strong 360-degree player and an asset for white-ball cricket in India, words of appreciation by skipper KL Rahul.
After Lucknow Super Giants registered their maiden win against last year’s defending champions Chennai Super Kings, who are yet to find their first win of the season, the common name of Ayush Badoni from the Super Giants squad pops up again after the massive chase last night.
Badoni was nicknamed “Baby AB” after his maiden half century by LSG skipper KL Rahul in their maiden game against Gujarat Titans on Monday, Match 4.
This ‘Baby AB’ has pulled a back-to-back appreciation from his skipper after his blistering performance last night of 19 not out in 9 balls, joined forces with Evin Lewis (55 not out) towards the end to help the team chase down a mammoth target of 211 runs.
“Badoni, I had seen a few videos when you only get to see the good shots, but the way he has been batting is phenomenal,” Rahul said and talking about the future of India, he added, “Strong, 360-degree player, a great find for India and an asset for white-ball cricket.”
In his short, unbeaten knock, the 22-year-old haunted the CSK bowlers, and Badoni shared how they prepared for the chase:
“The strategy was to avoid taking risks against Bravo. But, with barely two overs remaining, we had no choice but to take chances since, I guess, we needed 28 runs (34). As a result, we went all out.”
Badoni is a new shining star for LSG and if he plays with the same form and pace, he will soon make his journey to India. The way he is backed for his natural attacking game, he has impressed the team as well as the opponents with his explicit performance in a mere two games.
“They just told me to play my natural game since I know what I’m doing. They realised that if Evin and I were successful in hitting the big shots, we could win. As a result, no such communication was sent. It was just a matter of playing our shots, which we did brilliantly,” Badoni answered at a virtual press conference following LSG’s six-wicket victory.
