Iran Mahan Air bomb alert
India received an alert that the Iranian Mahan Air passenger plane has the possibility of a bomb on board. From Tehran in Iran, the plane was to land in China’s Guangzhou. India received an alert from the Lahore air traffic control (ATC) about the possibility of a bomb on the plane, as reported by the Times of India.
The plane remained for around 40 minutes over India after which it was allowed to fly toward China. According to ANI, the Indian airspace received inputs regarding the possibility of a bomb on the Iranian flight at around 9.20 am. After the plane left Pakistan and India swung into action.
After receiving an alert regarding the situation, the Indian Air Force (IAF), swung into action to scramble a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet from both Jodhpur and Halwara in Punjab airbase to follow the Iranian plane.
From the Iranian side, Mahan Air made a request to the Delhi Air Traffic Control to allow the passenger plane to safely land in India. As per ANI Mahan Air contacted Delhi ATC for an emergency landing in Delhi but India offered the plane to land at Jaipur. But the pilot of the plane refused to divert to both the points.
“All actions were taken by IAF as per laid down procedure, jointly with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) & Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The aircraft was under close radar surveillance by the Air Force throughout the Indian airspace”, the IAF said. (reported by ANI)
