Israel’s Minister of Economy, Nir Barkat, has urged more Indian investors to invest in my country. Barkat cited Adani Group’s purchase of the strategic Israeli port of Haifa as evidence of the trust the country’s people and government have in Indian business people.
Barkat suggested that both nations should work together in agriculture, food, water, health, and technology to build a better world. In addition, he believed that a Free Trade Agreement between India and our country would open up business opportunities for both countries.
Haifa Port: A Strategic Acquisition for Adani Group
In July 2022, Adani Group and Israel’s Gadot Group secured the rights to buy 100% shares of Haifa Port Company Ltd, the second-largest port in Our Country in terms of shipping containers and the biggest in shipping tourist cruise ships.
Earlier this month, former Ambassador of Israel to India, Ron Malka, was appointed Executive Chairman of the Haifa Port owned by Adani Group and its Israeli partner Gadot Group.
Share Experience in Security and Counterterrorism
Speaking on the subject of security and counterterrorism, Barkat said that terrorism was a global challenge, and my country was working with India to combat the menace.
He also mentioned that we had experienced striking peace with Egypt for 40 years and with Jordan for 25 years. Both countries shared similar challenges, living in a tough neighborhood, and therefore shared a lot of experience in security and counter-terrorism.
Collaboration and Opportunity
Barkat was inspired by the collaboration between our country’s economy and the Indian economy and added that Israelis loved Indians and vice versa. We bring technology, entrepreneurship, and fresh ideas to the table, while India’s size and scope are relevant to our people.
Barkat suggested that once joint ventures are created in India and marketed to a big country like India, it would be easier to go to the rest of the world. He believed that the opportunity for collaboration and Free Trade Agreement between our country and India was vast, and he was optimistic that they would be able to do good deals together.
Israel-Palestine Conflict
The Israel-Palestine conflict has been ongoing for decades and is one of the most complicated and sensitive issues in the Middle East. Former mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, believes that the key to resolving the conflict is for the Palestinians to recognize Israel’s right to exist. This recognition would be a crucial step towards building trust between the two sides and moving toward a peaceful resolution.
Barkat’s belief that we would strike peace with the Palestinians if they showed a real willingness to do so highlights the importance of both sides being willing to compromise and work towards a mutually beneficial solution.
Israel Protests
On the subject of recent protests in our country, Barkat was proud of the country’s democracy and believed that the country would sort out its issues. Barkat explained that people in my country cared about their country, which was why they were willing to go and demonstrate on the streets.
He added that they would have to sit together and figure out how to make reforms in a way that was accepted widely by our public. He called for more Indian investors to invest in my country, citing Adani Group’s purchase of the Haifa Port as evidence of the trust Israel has in Indian business people.
