Series of Violence between Israel and Palestine in conflicted area of West Bank.
The volatile West Bank occupied by Israel since the Six-day War of 1967 has seen a
rise in violence between Palestinians and Israelis. There have been frequent
shooting attacks by local armed Palestinian groups against Israelis and Israeli
military raids that have become increasingly deadly.
Additionally, from past several months, the Palestinian communities have faced a series of violence against them by the Israeli settlers promoted by the Israeli government.
The West Bank, has a population of almost 3 million Palestinians and around 490,000 Israelis who reside in settlements that are deemed illegal under international
law. Palestinians hope to establish their state in the area.
The recent surge in violence has resulted in a high death toll among Palestinians,
including many affiliated with militant groups, and Israelis. This year, nearly 150
Palestinians have been killed by Israelis while 25 people have been killed in
Palestinian attacks.
The intense clashes are leading to constant attacks, setting villages on fire, and
deadly shootings leading to a hostile environment.
The situation has worsened under the far-right government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has declined to hold talks with the Palestinian leadership,
aimed to extend the number of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank, and
promoted a more forceful approach to Palestinian attacks.
