The world marks one year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which moved not only Europe, but the entire world. The US President, Joe Biden pays an unannounced visit to the nation on Monday, February 20, 2024. He landed on Kyiv to meet the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Biden was seen having a friendly stroll with Zelenskiy in his aviator sunglasses.
The US President mentioned on his visit that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin attacked the nation thinking that Ukraine would be unable to handle the attack as it wasn’t strong enough. However, Ukraine proved him completely wrong.
He put forward the fact emphatically that inspite of whatever was expected out of Ukraine, they were still winning the largest battle on the grounds of Europe in last 75 years. He said that US was certain that Ukraine would come out stronger in the future.
Zelenskyy stated his pleasure to have Biden to visit the country and said it was the most significant meets in US- Ukraine’s history of ties.
The visit during the hard times of Ukraine meant a lot since Ukraine is fighting for not only its freedom, but also the freedom of the world, stated Zelenskyy.
The president stated that Russia was fighting not only against Ukraine but the whole world, a war that is unproved and criminal on Russia’s part. The whole democratic world has to stand against it for the freedom of Ukraine’s territory. The world has to stand with the long term security of the nation as well as Europe. He hoped that the year to come would prove to be a year of victory.
Joe Biden’s Visit- Not Rushed, Took Months of Planning
Joseph Biden’s Ukraine visit was not a surprise one, it was carefully planned by the White house and others for months. After considerations of months, it was chosen to plan his visit on Friday.
His departure from Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington, according to White House sources, happened around 4:15 AM (0915 GMT) on Sunday on an Air Force plane.
The president was accompanied by a group of aides and not the reporters and photographers.
An overnight flight, Air Force C-32 was taken by him to an American Base set up in Germany, which is the Ramstein Air Base. At this place the aircraft was refuelled before getting ahead to fly towards southeast Poland.
The plane landed in Przemysl, which lies on Poland- Ukraine border. The trip was an hour long. A train was taken after that which comprised of a lot of security and rode for straight ten hours to reach Kyiv. At 8 am on Monday, the train finally reached the Ukraine capital at Kyiv- Pasazhyrsky station. The platform was especially cleaned up and he was welcomed by the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Bridget McCabe.
Biden and his staff were awaited by Brink
Russia was already informed about Biden’s visit to Kyiv hours before its departure. US national security advisor, Jake Sullivan accompanied Biden declared that they had informed Moscow well before about the surprise trip. To abide by the deconfliction objectives, they informed Russia some hours before.
The person said that the trip by Biden had required “a security, operational, and logistical effort from specialists throughout the US government to take what was an inherently challenging exercise and make it to an acceptable level of risk.”
After his visit, Biden boarded the train once more to go on to Przemysl and then Warsaw.
