Former leader of the Communist Party of India Kanhaiya Kumar joins hands with the Congress at the party’s headquarters in the national capital.
Congress states that Kanhaiya is the charismatic symbol to fight for freedom of expression in the country. Senior leader and general secretary KC Venugopal state that Kanhaiya’s decision of joining the Congress will bring enthusiasm and unity among the workers.
Kanhaiya also brings forth his opinion stating that he is joining the Congress party because he feels that this country needs saving and has what it takes to keep India. He further comments that the Congress party is a large ship, and if it survives, other smaller parties will be able to survive.
Kanhaiya Kumar gained recognition and prominence when he was the President of the JNU students union. He joined the Communist Party of India in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where he contested against BJP’s Giriaj Singh from Begusarai in the Lok Sabha Polls held in Bihar.
Support From The Other Political Leaders
Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani is supporting the Congress party and its ideologies. Mevani comments that the country is facing numerous crises under the present BJP government as the atmosphere of hatred is being spread all across the country.
Mevani is the convener of the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikae Manch, also known as RDAM. His association with the Congress party dates back to when he handpicked Charanjit Singh Channi as the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab.
Mevani further adds that even though he isn’t joining Congress officially due to technical issues involving him being an independent MLA, he is supporting the Congress and their ideologies because it can save the country from the plight that the majority are going through the country.
Jignesh is receiving praises from Venugopal for implementing and carrying out a spirited campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party and its policies in Gujarat. This dedication and commitment have shown how Mevani will play a significant role next year in the upcoming assembly elections.
Reaction Of The Communist Party Leaders
The party general secretary D Raja expressed his opinion stating that Kumar was not truthful and did not express his demands with the Communist Party Of India. Raja further says that the CPI was thriving before Kanhaiya joined the party and will continue to function after his exit.
The general secretary of CPI also states that Kumar possesses personal and political aspirations that he wants to fulfil, showing that he has no faith in the Communist ideology.
He further adds that anyone who joins the Communist Party of India should prepare themselves to live a selfless life and have the courage to make sacrifices in situations for the welfare of the people and the nation. The main objective of CPI is selfless struggle and sacrifice without promoting personality or any particular individual.
Raja mentions that despite keeping in contact with Kumar throughout regarding the issues of the party, Kumar, on the other hand, never said leaving the party.
The Other Side Of The Coin: Leaders Who Left Or Resigned From The Party
While the Congress party warmly welcomes Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mevani, there were a few resignations from members of the party in recent months.
Former Mahila Congress Chief Sushmita Dev left the party, extending her support by joining the Trinamool Congress. Former Union Minister Jitin Prasada is now a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party as a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government.
Luizinho Faleiro, a veteran Congress leader of Goa, also resigned from the party on Monday. Sources say that he is likely to join the Trinamool Congress.
