Kanye West bails out of Coachella 2022 music festival where he was supposed to be headlining.
On April 4, Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, dropped out of his headlining set at Coachella 2022 music festival, scheduled for April 17 and 24. Ye has not rehearsed for his performance yet. Earlier this year in February, Ye in an Instagram post, demanded an apology from the other Coachella headliner Billie Eilish for “dissing” Travis Scott, and threatened to pull out of the festival.
The cancellation left the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in disarray where they have less than two weeks to find another headliner. Travis Scott was to have joined the rapper, but he won’t perform either.
Ye previously headlined the event in 2011 where his album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” was widely hailed as a masterpiece of attitude and theater. Rapper Pusha T, who performed alongside West onstage that night, described it as complex.
Kanye causing trouble everywhere
He was banned from performing at the Grammys 2022 due to his “concerning online behavior.” He was not part of Grammy 2022 but won two of the five awards he was nominated for. Ye received awards for the rap song (“Jail”) and the melodic rap performance (“Hurricane”).
He has headlined now and then over the past few months for a series of actions that some have called “concerning,” as well as his public treatment of his former partner Kim Kardashian, which many believe to be a way of harassment. Even Instagram banned Ye temporarily in March after he put out a series of disrespectful and targeted posts about Kardashian’s boyfriend Pete Davidson, as well as a post about comedian Trevor Noah that included a racial slur in the post which violated Instagram’s policies on hate speech, bullying, and harassment.
On April 6, Coachella posted a revised festival line-up, with Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd taking over his headlining slot. Headliners Harry Styles and Billie Eilish continue to be part of the festival’s two consecutive weekends as announced earlier.
