PM Narendra Modi inaugurated a month-long Kashi Tamil sangamam today.
It is a cultural event that aims at re-discovery, reforming, and celebrating the historical links between the state of Tamilnadu and Kashi (Varanasi).
It would provide an opportunity for people from both the states and the surrounding regions to come together to assimilate and share their knowledge, practices, and traditions. It is launched under the notion of ” Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
Cultural of Kashi–
Kashi the present name is Varanasi and the ancient name was Banaras, all three are symbolic of the rich archaeological mythological geographical, and history of this place. During the Buddhist time, it was also called Sarnath, a place where Buddha attained enlightenment. Kashi is also called the cultural capital of India. Kashee’s also known as the city of the god and is situated along the banks of the Ganga. It represents one of the richest Hindu cultures and is a commonplace of great Indian writers such as Kabir Das, Ravidas, Tulsidas, etc.
Varanasi is largely known for its temples which form an intrinsic part of its culture. The most famous one is the Kashi Vishwanath temple located at the banks of the Ganga. Varanasi is also famous for its musical style and is a well-known Gharana.

Culture of Tamil Nadu-
Tamil Nadu is a hub of Hindu culture in southern India. It owes its culture to the dynasties of the Chehra, the Chola, and the Pandya that brought cultural richness to this region. The Kanchipuram Thanjavur Madurai is an important pilgrimage site in this state. It is most famous for the set of temples that are also included in UNESCO’s World Heritage site list. The great temple at Kanchipuram and Meenakshi Amma temple in Madurai are examples of their rich archaeological heritage.

Coming to dance and music the status is famous for Bharatanatyam, one of the 8th classical dances of India. Tamil Nadu is also a pioneer of the Carnatic style of music.
Therefore this event would play a key role in integrating and assimilating the cultures of northern and Southern India. It would bring out the idea of India in line with unity in diversity.
