Faesal, a 2010 batch topper had earlier resigned in January 2019 to start his own political party. However, his political career could not be long as he has to leave politics shortly in August 2020 after being detained. He had faith he would get a second chance to undo the mistake of the tenure.
IAS officer, Shah Faesal quit his civil services in 2019 to form his own political party to protest against the “marginalisation of Indian Muslims”. Three years later now, he is being deputed as a deputy secretary in the tourism industry, by the Indian government.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in its order issued two days ago appointed him in the Union Tourism Ministry, a senior DoPT official told ANI.
Background
Centre’s move comes four months after Mr. Faesal had filed an application for withdrawing resignation. In April, he had filed a plea to withdraw his resignation and for being deployed in the service.
Mr. Faesal, a 2010 IAS batch topper of Jammu and Kashmir cadre now AGMUT, resigned from civil services in January 2019. He resigned services to kick-start his own political career.
Faesal formed his own political party named Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) in Kashmir. However, he got arrested shortly after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He was arrested under the stringent Public Safety Act.
In the aftermath of all these incidents, he penned down his suffering on Twitter.
Taking to Twitter on 27 April, Faesal wrote, “8 months of my life (Jan 2019-Aug 2019) created so much baggage that I was almost finished. While chasing a chimera, I lost almost everything that I had built over the years. Jobs, Friends, Reputation, Public Goodwill”.
He claimed despite losing everything he never lost his hope and also asserted that his own idealism has led him down.
Adding on he wrote he still has faith he can undo the mistake he committed and that life would give him a second chance.
“A part of me is exhausted with the memory of those 8 months and wants to erase that legacy. Much of it is already gone. Time will mop off the rest I believe,” he said.
This period of 8 months he talked about in his tweet was when he resigned from the services to float his own political career. This was the duration in which he was busy in the party’s formation and its launch.
Mr Faesal is the first person from Kashmir to top the civil services exam. That’s the reason also he came into the limelight and motivated a number of students to dream and achieve.
This success story of him has inspired a number of civil aspirants coming from Kashmir and all other places in the country. If a person coming from such a disrupted area of India can top the civil services exam they too can.
Approval and Appointment
On April 29, after the Ministry of Home Affairs clearance he was taken back into the Indian Administrative Services. Actually, his resignation had never been approved by the government and he withdrew it later.
He was one of the prominent persons to go to the Supreme Court against the scrapping of Article 370. Article 370 which gave special status to Kashmir, he was against the government’s move on it and hence appealed to SC on the same.
The decision of his appointment in the ministry has been approved by the centre on Thursday, according to the sources.
He is soon to be appointed as Deputy Secretary and more likely to be posted in New Delhi.
