An auto driver named Anoop, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala won a lottery worth Rs. 25 crores. A lottery contest was conducted on the occasion of Onam where Anoop tried his luck. On Sunday afternoon, Anoop’s luck took a sudden turn. The biggest turn was that he won a lottery worth Rs.25 crores.
The news started to circulate on social media on Monday, 18th September. His ticket number was TJ-750605 he was ultimately declared the winner of the mega lottery which took place. There is another twist to this story. Anoop won’t be getting the entire amount of Rs. 25 crores. He would be given the amount by deducting the taxes and commissions. By deducting the taxes, Anoop would be getting Rs.15 crores. The rest would go to the government.
According to the official department of lottery of Kerala state, if a person wins the first lottery, 10% tax from the total amount of the lottery will be deducted. The amount collected from the tax is the commission for the lottery agents. From the commission for the lottery agents, the government claims 30% of the amount
In this case Anoop received Rs. 2,50,00,000. From this amount, 10% of income tax will be deducted. So the new total becomes Rs.6,75,00,000. After all this, Anoop is left with Rs. 15,75,00,000. This amount will be reaching Anoop’s account soon. According to the sources, in any lottery above Rs. 25 crores, an income tax of 37% will be deducted from the amount along with cess and surcharge.
The Onam bumper lottery usually offers a lottery ticket to the public which has the highest amount written on it. In the year 2022, the purchase of lottery tickets saw a new record.
