Following the aggravation of the protest, five women were held for the “stripping” allegations in Kerala’s Kollam. The forced removal of a girl’s bra before appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was the reason for the arrest.
Five women, including three who worked for an agency hired by the National Agency Test (NTA), and the other two who worked in a private educational center, were held by the state police. As per the allegations, the personnel forced the female candidate to remove her bra due to its metallic hook while appearing for NEET.
“Stripping” Allegations
A complaint against those responsible was filed by the girl’s parents, stating that the girl was “mentally tortured.” As per the guidelines for dress code, NTA did not suggest the removal of a bra or any innerwear. The girl’s father said that many girls were made to remove their bras and asked to put them in a store.
Though the complainant was a 17-year-old girl, other female candidates also encountered such an experience but have not filed a complaint.
Panel Formed and Actions Taken
The NTA has now formed a panel after the Kerala government took up the issue as the Center demanded strong action against those responsible. The NTA, an agency that conducts the exams all over the nation, has now formed a panel to investigate the issue.
The Kerala Women’s Commission received complaints and a case was registered by the same.
“Shameful and outrageous to the modesty of young girls,” stated the National Commission for Women has called the incident
Reactions from the Public
The incident was received with greater intensity by the public domain. People began to protest at the police station in the Kollam district, where the incident took place. They extended their support to all the girls and their families who had witnessed this pathetic situation.
Later, the case is now handled by all the major organizations, including NTA. Further investigation is being carried out by the authorities to look into the details.
