In the midst of erecting Bollywood viewership around the world, non-Bollywood Indian films turning blockbusters has become a real thing as KGF Chapter 2 stuns the fans with some action-wrapped drama.Â
At the box office, Yash Raj Films‘ KGF Chapter 2 is breaking records. The Prashanth Neel film recently passed the Rs 1000 crore mark, making it the second highest-grossing Hindi film behind Baahubali 2. Dangal is the third highest-grossing Hindi film. According to recent reports, the film’s net revenue is on track to surpass Rs 400 crore, making it only the second Hindi film after Rajamouli’s epic to do so.
The film is a sequel to KGF: Chapter 1 from 2018. The film, which is based on the power dynamics at the Kolar Gold Fields in the 1970s, has captivated spectators. Srinidhi Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Archana Jois, and Prakash Raj appear in the film, which was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore.Â
OTT presenceÂ
The Hindi version of KGF Chapter 2 had a box office collection of Rs 391.65 crore and is continuously making money. At the domestic box office, Dangal grossed Rs 387.38 crore. And now, after shattering many box office records, the Prashanth Neel-directed film appears to be on its way to shattering yet another record in terms of OTT platform arrangements.Â
According to a recent source, the OTT rights of KGF: Chapter 2 have been purchased by a renowned OTT platform for a record price of roughly Rs 320 crores. The film will reportedly be available for streaming on the OTT platform starting May 27 in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam.Â
KGF: Chapter 1 is currently available for viewing on Amazon Prime. It is unknown whether the second instalment of this hit film will be released on the same platform.Â
While KGF Chapter 2 has enjoyed a smooth sprint in theatres thus far, it remains to be seen whether the picture will be able to retain its box office dominance in the face of the Hollywood feature Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Marvel picture is supposed to be a spectacle, and it hopes to capture the same magic as Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released in December 2021.
