Kris Wu : Chinese-Canadian Rapper has been Sentenced to 13 years In Jail For Rape
Beijing: Former Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of rape, a Chinese court said on Friday following a scandal that led to a wide-spread condemnation.
Kris Wu has been sentenced to “11 years and six months in prison for rape,” Beijing’s Chaoyang District Court said, adding that “he also received a one-year prison sentence and ten months for the crime of assembling people to commit adultery”.
He will serve a 13-year sentence before being deported , the court said.
Wu originally rose to fame as a member of K-pop boy band EXO before leaving in 2014 to pursue a successful solo career as a Singer-songwriter rapper , actor,and model.
Du Meizhu, a 19-year-old Student, accused Kris Wu of raping her last year when I was 17 years old, prompting a flurry of public criticism and luxury brands doing business with him.
Chaoyang District Court said the investigation showed that the 32-year-old man, also known as Wu Yifan, suffered from November to December 2020 raped three girls.
“Wu” took advantage of three drunk women…in his home,” the court said on its official Twitter account, WeChat.Wu was arrested on July 31 last year after an 18-year-old Chinese student publicly accused him of saying she and other girls, some of them for instigating sex with him under the age of 18.
At the time, the student told the media that Wu enticed her to have sex when she was 17 after he she molested her for alcohol.
The court also found him guilty of the crime of gathering a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity in July 2018, it said. Further alleged victims came online following these allegations, accusing Wu staff of abusive behavior, including inviting people to karaoke parties that included alcohol.
The saga has invoked China’s #MeToo movement, which saw a surge in 2018 of women speaking out about their experiences of sexual harassment expressed, sometimes involving political public figures.
