Maharashtra Government announced Bandh on 11th October in Maharashtra to condemn the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Â
Maharashtra Bandh: Shiv Sena, NCP and Maharashtra Congress declared the Maharashtra bandh to condemn the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence that took place on 3rd October in Uttar Pradesh.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi group is a coalition government in Maharashtra consisting of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.
Maharashtra government announced the Maharashtra bandh on 11th October. They passed this Notice to show their compassion towards the unfortunate deaths of farmers in UP.Â
NCP leader Jayant Patil proposed the idea of Bandh on 11th October, and Balasaheb Thackeray from Congress and Subhash Desai from Shiv Sena accepted and supported this proposal.Â
Why did the Maharashtra government announce Bandh?
Recently, violence took place in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh against the protesting farmers, in which a total of 8 protesting farmers died.Â
As the investigation regarding the case has been started and is in a continuous process, the Maharashtra government announced Bandh to condemn the violence and support the Farmers and their protest.Â
NCP minister Jayant Patil proposed the idea of Bandh and said, “We condemn the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri against farmers and express our solidarity with farmers.
The BJP is not working on the case and just trying to cover it up by false consoling words for farmers.
We need to put pressure on the BJP to work on the case as soon as possible and arrest the minister’s son (alleged culprit); therefore, Bandh is our way to do so. Everything else in the state would be shut except essential services.”
Opposition leaders against the Lakhimpur-Kheri Violence Â
On Tuesday, NCP leader Sharad Pawar warned BJP that BJP would have to pay a heavy price and said that the whole opposition is with farmers of India and against the violence.Â
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also visited Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the family members of deceased farmers.Â
AAP leader and CM Arvind Kejriwal talked to the family of the deceased over the phone and told them that the incident was unfortunate.
It shows the lawlessness of the UP government and police agencies that they are still unable to arrest the culprit.
He assured the family members that he would always support the farmers and their families and fight till the end.Â
Effects of Lakhimpur-Kheri Violence on Politics
While BJP took Lakhimpur-Kheri violence as an incident, the opposition called it an Attack on protesting farmers to scare them and stop them from fighting against the government.Â
Many opposition leaders called it an Attack on Democracy and said there is no law and order in Uttar Pradesh under BJP.Â
Lakhimpur-Kheri Violence is the largest district in the Terai Region of UP, where there will be polls in 2022.
Therefore it is assumed that if the government doesn’t handle the case properly and fails to provide Justice to the kin of deceased farmers, the vote share for BJP will be affected. The opposition won’t leave a chance to glorify the issue in any case.Â
However, Violence in Lakhimpur-Kheri may affect the vote share of the BJP, and it may also gain the opposition of some voters for sure.
Therefore, Opposition leaders of the BJP in Maharashtra planned to declare Bandh on 11th October to support the farmers and put pressure on the UP government to work on the case and arrest the accused as soon as possible.Â
Supreme Court on Lakhimpur-puri Violence
We expect responsible government, system and police in UP as SC tells UP government on Lakhimpur-Kheri violence.Â
The court questions the state, ” what message are you sending by such case handling ” on the slow arrest process and asks why the accused has not been arrested so far despite so many notices.
