Scotland Yard reported a case regarding the murder of a British national woman of Indian origin on Monday. The victim of this crime was a 19-year-old recognised as Sabita Thanwani, who was a pupil at the city, University of London, studying psychology.
The incident took place at Sabita’s student accommodations, Arbour House student flats, in the Clerkenwell area of London, the United Kingdom. The incident took place on Saturday, when the student suffered some grave injuries to her neck. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the police, Sabita Thanwani was in a relationship with a 22-year-old Tunisian guy called Maher Maaroufe, who had no fixed address. Allegedly, the victim and Maher Maaroufe were together on Friday.
Scotland Yard issued a high priority plea for the 22-year-olds wanted as suspects soon after the body was discovered. Ultimately, Maaroufe was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault in the neighborhood of the Clerkenwell area of London, where the victim’s body was found.
The case is being led by detective chief inspector Linda Bradley of the Specialist Crime Unit of the Met Police. After the arrest of the suspected murderer, Bradley thanked everyone who helped them in tracing Maher Maaroufe by sharing and publicising their plea.
Additionally, Bradley expressed her solicitude and urged the media and the people to provide the family of the victim with some space and time to deal with the tragic murder of their beloved daughter. On Monday, the 21st, the family paid tribute to their “beautiful and irreplaceable angel”.
Her family issued a statement saying that “Sabita was the most loving person that they have ever known and that she inspired them every day of the short but colorful life that she led.” Although formal identification of the body is still pending, the Thanwani family has been informed of the special postmortem that is to be performed.
An official at Unite Students, a student accommodation provider which operated the Arbour House, stated that their top priority at this moment is the safety of the students and that they are working closely with the police and the university.
