The ministries of Urban Development and Public Works Undertakings held by Eknath Shinde have been given to Industries Minister Subhash Desai. Desai’s term as an MLC will soon get over politics and he will have to resign as a minister.
As the political situation in Maharashtra deteriorated, numerous Shiv Sena workers came to the streets in Maharashtra and Delhi on Sunday to protest party dissidents. Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who is facing a mutiny within his party, stripped dissident ministers camped in Guwahati, Assam, of their portfolios and assigned them to other cabinet members. Uddhav Thackeray stated that the administration has taken this action so that state residents do not suffer.
Eknath Shinde’s portfolios of Urban Development and Public Works Undertakings have been transferred to Subhash Desai, minister of industry. As soon as Desai’s tenure as an MLC expires, he will have to retire as a minister.
The portfolio of Water Supply Minister Gulabrao Patil has been transferred to Transport Minister Anil Parab, who is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and has been regularly questioned by the central agency.
Aditya Thackeray, the environment minister, and son of the chief minister will now oversee the ministries of agriculture and Sainik Welfare under Dada Bhuse, EGS and horticulture ministries held by Sandipan Bhumre, and higher and technical education ministries held by Uday Samant, who are all Shiv Sena leaders.
Sanjay Bansode will now hold the Home ministry, which was previously held by Minister of state Shamburaje Desai. The finance and skill development ministries have been given to Vishwajeet Kadam of the Congress party, and the excise ministry has been given to Satej Patil of the Congress party as well.
Health was assigned to Vishwajit Kadam, medical education and textiles to Prajakt Tanpure (NCP), rural development to Satej Patil, and cultural affairs to Aditi Tatkare by MoS Rajendra Yadravkar (Independent) (NCP).
The ministries of Shiv Sena minister Abdul Sattar have also been seized. Sattar’s revenue portfolio has been assigned to Prajakt Tanpure, his rural development portfolio to Satej Patil, and his ports portfolio to Aditi Tatkare.
Thackeray has also reassigned portfolios to Minister of State Bachchu Kadu (Independent). Aditi Tatkare has been given responsibility for school education, Satej Patil for irrigation, Sanjay Bansode (NCP) for women’s and children’s welfare, and Datta Bhare for OBC (NCP).
