Maharashtra: Man set on fire by ex-girlfriend
Mumbai: A man in Nashik district was set on fire by his ex-girlfriend and her family members on Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Gorakh Bachav. The incident had taken place at the Lohaner village under Devla Taluka of Nashik. The victim had given away to burn injuries at a hospital on Sunday.
The man’s 23-year-old ex-girlfriend Kalyani Sonawane and her four family members were arrested by the Nashik police earlier. They were charged with an attempt to murder. Now, all the accused have been booked for murder.
The other accused include Kalyani’s mother Nirmala, father Gokul, and two brothers-Hemant and Prasad. The accused believed that Gorakh was disrupting Kalyani’s attempt to get married and was threatening to do so.
Inspector Dileep Landge from Deola police station said that the deceased Gorakh used to work as a plumber. First, he was beaten up with an iron rod by Kalyani’s parents when he was standing in the market. In the meantime, some flammable liquid was poured on him by Kalyani’s mother, Nirmala. And Kalyani had lit him up with a matchstick.
The victim was rushed to the Nagpur civil hospital by the local residents. Gorakh suffered 80-90 percent burn injuries in the attack.
The local police registered an FIR against the accused when they were informed about the attack.
Madhuri Kangane, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Nashik), said that the five family members were presented at a local court where they were remanded to police custody till Tuesday. They will be presented at a court on Tuesday.
