Mamata Banerjee has called upon all progressive opposition forces to meet and deliberate on the future course of actionĀ
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to opposition Chief ministers and leaders of opposing parties, inviting them to a meeting on June 15 in preparation for the presidential elections and to strengthen opposition to a “divisive force.” The meeting will take place on June 15 at the Constitution Club in Delhi.
Banerjee has written to 22 political leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. She also wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
In a tweet, the Trinamool Congress stated that Mamata Banerjee has invited all progressive opposition forces to meet and deliberate on the future course of action with the Presidential elections in mind at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
“The Presidential elections are quickly approaching, providing the ideal opportunity for all progressive parties to reconvene and deliberate on the future course of Indian politics,” Banerjee wrote in the letter.
āThe election is monumental because it gives the legislators the opportunity to participate in deciding the Head of our State who is the custodian of our democracy.
At a time when our democracy is going through troubling times, I believe that a fruitful confluence of opposition voices is the need of the hour; to echo the deprived and unrepresented communities,ā she added.
Mamata Banerjee alleges government of targeting opposition
Banerjee stated that all progressive forces in the country must remain united in order to “resist the divisive force that is plaguing us today.” She claimed that opposition leaders are “deliberately targeted by various central agencies, the country’s image is maligned internationally, and bitter discords are created within.”
“It is past time to fortify our resistance,” the letter stated.
The Election Commission of India announced on Thursday that the next presidential elections will be held on July 18, with results expected on July 21.
