Late on Monday, January 31, 2022, a man killed his elder brother and tried to report it as an accident in Ludhiana
The Ludhiana police arrested a young man of 24 late at night on January 31 for brutally killing his elder brother due to a dispute. The victim, Kabal Singh, age 27, was murdered with a brick by his younger brother, Balwinder Singh, in Halwara, Sudhar.
The accused was drunk during the incident and tried to pass his brother’s death as a road accident. The first report was registered after the statement given by their cousin, Ranjit Singh.
CCTV footage at a nearby shrine on the Ludhiana-Bathinda Road recorded the tragic incident and evidence against the accused. Balwinder and Kabal worked as labourers and had a habit of getting drunk and fighting.
On January 31, they got into an argument outside their house. Enraged, Balwinder attacked his brother repeatedly on the head and face with a brick. Kabal died on the spot on getting injured on the head.
Panicked at realising that he killed his brother, Balwinder then went to neighbours to alert them that Kabal died due to a hit and run by a passing vehicle. The sarpanch of the village then called the police to report the incident.
Sub-inspector Balwinder Singh, the station house officer of Sudhar, stated that the victim’s injury revealed a different story than Balwinder’s. So, after an autopsy report confirmed the death by bludgeoning and the evidence from the CCTV, upon questioning, Balwinder confessed and was booked under Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
