Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar starrer Samrat Prithviraj has hit the big screen on 3 June. Manushi is playing the role of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’s queen “Sanyogita”.
Though the film has received mixed reviews, it was the wardrobe and royal costumes of the former Miss World that garnered much appreciation. Her scenes as Sanyogita were shot in bright-hued ethnic attires and jewellery, that appeared to have belonged to that era.
She has been donning ethereal ethnic ensembles in all her appearances since the launch of the trailer of Samrat Prithviraj. From majestic lehengas to magnificent sarees, she looked stunning in both on-screen and off-screen events.
Talking about her attires in the movie, she said, “What I loved about the costumes of Samrat Prithviraj is that they kept it very authentic. But they were heavy, the jewellery was very heavy. There was a duppata for my Swayamvar which went on my head. It was really heavy and I had a proper head neck and upper back issue. I couldn’t keep my head straight. So, every time we would stop shooting for a scene, people would come and lift the dupatta so that the weight is not all on my head.”
Here are the top 3 looks from the ethnic wardrobe of Manushi Chillar.
The Bride of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan
In a heavily embroidered red lehenga and orange dupatta, Manushi looked as regal as a princess bride. With traditionally ornate gold jewellery, it was surprising that the ornaments did not overpower, instead added to the outfit’s charm.
Manushi told the press about the efforts that went into making her look simplistically gorgeous yet a royal bride.
“The makeup would take 20 mins max because my director wanted to portray Princess Sanyogita as natural as possible, and hair and costume would take hours. I would be the first one to enter the set. It would still be dark! For the wedding sequence, though it is a short one, it took a really long time for me to get ready. There was an army of people working on me to get me ready and look the way I do on screen.
It was like someone putting alta on my hands, someone putting alta on my feet, someone stitching my costume, someone fixing my hair, someone fixing my makeup, and someone putting jewellery on me. There were countless people trying to put layers and layers of clothes and jewellery on me. That took a while”
Graceful in a handcrafted Pink Saree
Manushi Chillar was dolled up in a stunning pink handwoven saree for the special screening of Samrat Prithviraj.
The fuchsia pink saree was by Madhurya, a heritage clothing line. The actress wore the six yards of silk with a cream-colored half-sleeve silk shirt with a wide neckline. The saree was embroidered with simple handcrafted embellishments. On the pallu, it had broad golden borders with blue lining, and delicate thread embroidery in the same hues. Her modest studded earrings and bangles were of the brand “Embellish” by Bhakti Vora.
Ivory beauty in Sharara
Manushi looked stunning in a promotional event of Samrat Prithviraj when she chose an ivory sharara by Ritika Mirchandani. She paired it with a bralette and layered it with a floor-length embroidered shrug adorned with mirrors and beads. She wore a matching belt around her waist.
Flower-shaped diamond studs enhanced the actor’s allure. A bun, glittering eyeshadow, mascara-laden eyes, well-defined eyebrows, accentuated cheeks, and glossy lips completed her look.
Manushi Chillar is making her debut in Bollywood with Yash Raj’s first historical drama Samrat Prithviraj. The film focused intricately on the costumes of the actors to build realism in cinematography.
