Micron technology is a semiconductor company, and a global leader of the industry initially based in America.
It has currently settled in 17 worldwide locations, with 11 manufacturing sites and 15 customer labs. Thes locations include, USA in the American continent, China, Japan, India, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan in the Asian continent, France, Germany and Italy in the European continent.
Taking a glance at the achievements, Micron bagged the award for the Best Technology award in 2022, Data Engeneering Transformation in 2024, and was also recognised under the global 500 strongest and most valuable brands, 2024.Â

The Semiconductor Conference 2024
Semicon India 2024 conference, for demonstration of India’s chip design was held on July 28, Friday. The event was held at the Mahatma Mandir, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The inauguration of the conference event was done by the honourable Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi.
In the semicon, Micron technology’s CEO , Sanjay Mehrotra, made the announcement about the upcoming facility in Gujarat, which will be in position of producing chips for the consumers of India, as well as for the purpose of International supply.
On June 22, Micron had announced to make an investment of $825 million, in their first chip and test facility.
The project was approved by the Cabinet during the visit of Prime Minister to the United States.
Additionally, apart from Micron, AMD, Advanced Micro Devices, also announced to make an investment of $400 million for micro chips in India, with a plan of building largest design centre in Bengaluru, by 2028.Â
Distribution of the Total Investment
As mentioned above, the total investment was announced to be $825 million.
The amount will be wholly used for the first ship assembly and test facility in Gujarat.
Micron gave a statement, that through support from the side of State (Gujarat) government and Central government, the total amount to be invested in the factory will be $2.7 Billion.
Breaking it down, about 50 percent of the contribution will be made by the Cemtral Government, and the 20 percent will be received from the Gujarat state government.
What change will the Micron facility bring in?Â
In accordance with the statement of the CEO, The Micron Technology company successfully built a team of about more than 3000 engineers from India, in a span of just a few years. Micron consists of more than 40,000 team members globally, with operations in 17 different locations.Â
The estimations were also made that Gujarat facility might create about 5000 jobs in the near future.
He further said, that through effective utilisation of products by the engineers, IT operations and systems in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, where micron has successfully established the facilities, it will be a great advantage and help Micron to run the assembly unit successfully.
Sanjay also referenced that programmes like Digital India and Make In India have higher possibility for creating a positive growth.Â
Conclusion
It is expected that the construction of the facility in Gujarat might start this year, 2024, and its first phase is expected to commence its operations from the next year, 2024.
The second phase is likely to start operations from the second half of the decade.
Recently, India has caught the eyes of foreign investors as a feasible destination for investment, and India has been prosing itself as a capable nation for investments of electronics and semi-conductors.
