A 17-year-old girl was assaulted by a police sub-inspector in a hotel in Maharashtra’s was arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl at Chikhaldara, Amravati district, an official stated on Sunday. The accused and the girl reportedly hailed from the same village and were well acquainted with each other. The girl had been living as a paying guest in Nagpur.
The 17-year-old girl was assaulted by her local guardian, police sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar Nitwane in a hotel in Maharashtra. The police sub-inspector was later arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl at Chikhaldara, Amravati district, an official stated on Sunday. The accused and the girl reportedly hailed from the same village and the accused served as a local guardian, aware that the girl had been living as a paying guest in Nagpur.
The police sub-inspector, identified as Pradeep Kumar Nitwane, 35, was serving under the state Anti-Naxal Operations (ANO) cell at the Deputy Inspector General’s office. He has been remanded in police custody for five days.
It was found that Nitwane had allegedly lured the minor, a student of 12th standard with the promise of a pleasant surprise before taking her to Chikhaldara by car. Upon reaching there, he offered her drinks spiked with sedatives and after sexually assaulting the girl, Nitwane went on to threaten her by ending his life if she spoke of the incident with anyone.
Sitabuldi police in Nagpur have now arrested the 35-year-old policeman, working under the office of the DIG Anti-Naxal Operation, for allegedly raping the girl.
After the incident and upon returning to the city the next day, the girl informed her parents about the events, who proceeded to lodge a complaint with Sitabuldi police, following which the cop was taken into custody. A case under sections 363 for kidnapping, 376 for rape, and other relevant sections of the IPC along with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused, the police official stated.
