Neeraj Chopra will participate in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 26. The athlete missed the Commonwealth Games owing to a minor gastro ailment.
Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo Olympics winner, will compete in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 26. Due to a minor groin injury, Neeraj was unable to defend his Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham in July.
The men’s javelin throw will be featured at the last Diamond League competition of the season in Lausanne. In September, the top six athletes will compete in the grand final in Zurich.
The current Olympic champion, Neeraj Chopra, suffered kidney damage late in July while competing in the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. He was forced to miss the CWG 2022 in Birmingham as a result. The javelin thrower has since been receiving treatment in Germany.
Neeraj won a historic silver medal in the World Championships. He finished second on the podium with the best effort of 88.13m in the final, after Anderson Peters of Grenada, who broke the 90m barrier three times in Oregon.
Chopra stated, after earning silver at the World Championships, that the Diamond League title is the one he wants to add to his resume. His CV also includes gold medals from the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The thrower’s early season termination was originally scheduled by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in order to reduce the possibility of additional injuries.
However, a medical assessment released on Sunday indicated that Chopra had significantly improved.
Neeraj Chopra announced his return to action on social media on Tuesday. India’s superstar for Tokyo 2020 remarked, “Feeling strong and ready for Friday.” Thanks for the support, everyone. “See you in Lausanne!”
Earlier in the season, in the Stockholm Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra broke his own personal best twice and set a new national record of 89.94m. Chopra’s second-place performance in Stockholm also maintained him in contention for the Diamond League grand final.
Neeraj will attempt to break the 90m barriers as he prepares to compete in the Lausanne Diamond League’s 6-man competition. The field does not include reigning world champion Peters, who was attacked on a boat in Grenada earlier this month, or Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem. Johannes Vetter of Germany, who is out with an injury, is also not on the field in Lausanne.
