Netflix is comping up with the second season of Bridgerton and it’s got room for Bollywood music too. The second season, which was much anticipated after the first season broadcast on OTT, is planned to premiere on March 25th, 2022.
While fans eagerly await the release of this period drama, the show has some exciting news for Bollywood fans and Indian viewers.
The first season featured instrumental covers of popular songs by artists such as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and more. And looking at the craze of the second season, the musical playlist is no less with instrumental pop covers of Rihanna, Harry Styles, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, and more will be featured.
In the midst of it all, a classic Bollywood song is causing a stir, as the show’s official musical playlist will include a cover version of Kris Bowers’ title track from Karan Johar’s film “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.”
The title track was sung by none other than Nightingale of India Late Lata Mangeshkar. The song will be used as an instrumental cover for the series’ musical depiction in the background of the show.
When asked about K3G title track, the showrunner Chris Van Dusen told Tadum, “It’s a first for Bridgerton – a cover of a Bollywood song called “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” which I’m really excited about. It’s a very beautiful cover.”
Bollywood actors including Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Hritik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukherji appeared in the film. The songs played in the film are engaging and still played the 2000s Bollywood music lovers.
“Even with these songs that are just massive hits that everyone knows, (an instrumental version) still breathes fresh life and gives them to a new audience,” music supervisor Justin Kamps told in an interview with Tudum.
The Indian fans are eager to watch the season 2, and with Bollywood music added to show’s playlist the show will create a completely different vibe.
