Amitabh Kant, the chief executive officer of NITI Aayog, said that Aadhaar has become the “foundation” of the government’s welfare programs and has saved the government over Rs 2 lakh crore; by “eliminating bogus and duplicate identities.”
Kant, who participated in a workshop titled “Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar Usage” in the nation’s capital, stated, “Aadhaar has become the foundation for government welfare schemes, facilitated faster beneficiary transfers without any interference or intermediaries, and saved an immense amount of money.”
He also referred to Aadhaar as one of the “most successful” biometric-based identity programs globally, which has compelled deliberations and discussions with international multilateral organizations, such as the World Bank and the United Nations, to determine how the Aadhar architecture may be implemented in other nations.
“It is excellent that 315 Central Schemes and 500 State Schemes use Aadhaar to promote efficient service delivery…
Aadhaar’s now the foundation for government welfare programs, allowing for speedier benefit disbursements without interruption or middlemen and saving the government Rs 2.22 lakh crore rupees by removing bogus and duplicate identities.”, Kant remarked.
The aadhaar number is a 12-digit randomized number given by the UIDAI (“Authority”) to Indian citizens who have satisfied the Authority’s verification requirements. Regardless of age or gender, anyone residing in India may freely enroll to get an Aadhaar number.
A small amount of demographic and biometric information is required throughout the enrollment procedure, completely free of charge. A single enrollment is necessary for Aadhaar, and following demographic and biometric de-duplication, only one Aadhaar will be created since uniqueness is established via this procedure.
The Aadhaar number may be verified online in a cost-effective manner. It is sufficiently unique and resilient to remove duplication and false identities and may be used as a basis/primary identity to roll out several Government welfare schemes and programs for efficient service delivery, boosting transparency and good governance.
This is the only program of its type in the world that provides individuals with free digital and online identification on such a massive scale, and it has the potential to revolutionize how the nation provides services.
