With the BJP trumpeting its majority in Manipur and also managing to landslide the Assam’s Majuli constituency. BJP has managed to get itself a solid foot in the NER-politics defined by the cultural, social and identity tags.
MANIPUR ELECTION
The Manipur state unit BJP president A Sharda Devi marked the Manipur win as a ‘reflection of people’s acceptance of the party and governance.’ while the INC was eyeing for a return in Manipur has managed to get only 5 seats in 60 constituencies.
While the 2020 NPP and 3 BJP MLAs defection have created turbulence for the Biren Government. The turnout of this election has sustained the BJP’s stronghold.
N.Biren had won from the Heingang constituency by 18,000 votes. This margin is significant for Biren, it gives him an edge to get secured his seat to the CM candidature.
This will be BJP’s second inning in the Manipur succeeding the predecessor Ibobi regime of the congress which lasted for almost two-decade (2002-17).
While the BJP awaits the Governor’s invitation to form the party, the speculations for the next CM candidature has already made circulations. It’s expected that the governor will send in the invite by today.
Some experts suggest that this impressive win by the BJP is reflective of changing conscience of the state and region as a whole. while others credit this to the Centre-State relation and the proximity of the region to vote mostly for the party in power at the Centre.
Whatever be the affect that favoured the ruling party, it has survived the odds to maintain its effectiveness by gaining majorly even in the congress stronghold region, having an early Holi.
ASSAM BYE-ELECTION
JP Nadda, BJP’s National President iterated that the cascading win of BJP in 4 states and Assam’s Bye-election along with Municipal election is the outcome of well in sync chemistry and not of arithmetic’s.
BJP’s Majuli bye-election candidate Bhuban Gam managed to win by 42,141 plus votes securing 69.86% vote share in the constituency. This is significant for the Hemant Biswa Government as they have sustained their dominance.
