There are rumbles of discontent in Delhi BJP’s unit after Nupur Sharma’s suspension and Naveen Jindal’s expulsion Hindus are Second Class Citizens Everywhere, tweets Kapil Mishra.
Nupur Sharma’s suspension and Naveen Jindal’s expulsion has caused dissensions within Delhi’s BJP unit, sources say. Nupur Sharma was suspended after she had made an offensive remark against Prophet Muhammad on television. Naveen Jindal followed suit with a tweet on the same.Sharma tweeted that she did this in response to Insults aimed at Shiva. Almost immediately Islamic nations in the middle east severely criticised the Modi government. Soon after, the party suspended her and dismissed Jindal. Commentators argue that this was done to protect Indian trade and strategic interests.
Disaffection towards BJP Leadership
Most leaders have refrained from supporting Nupur and Naveen on social media. On the other hand, some have expressed their discontent on personal conversations and in Whats App groups. BJP leader Kapil Mishra has gone public, though.
“Their country is an Islamic country. Talking about the rights of Muslims, openly talking about economic boycott, removal from jobs in the name of religion.Hindu is a second class citizen in the world. Only Hindu religion is such that there is no punishment for mocking and abusing it, rather reward is given”, he said.
A mandal adhyaksh from Delhi’s Jharoda area, Parveen Chaudhary complained on Facebook in Hindi, “ I respect all religions, but if people from another religion speak about our god, its fine, while if we open our mouth, the party punishes us. If you can’t stand by your karyakarta, then stop using them too. The party has broken the trust of thousands of karyakartas. If you will not be with Nupur Sharma, then why will karyakartas fight for you?” he said. Many cadres agreed with him.
Cadres Cry Foul over Nupur Sharma, Leaders say Do Not Cross Lakshman Rekha.
The kerfuffle on Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal has left the party leadership and its cadres in splits. Abhishek Dubey, in charge of BJP Yuva Morcha’s state IT cell ,wrote on Twitter. He tweeted, “I do not support the insult of any religion because everyone has their faith somewhere. But our Shivji has been insulted, has any action been taken against anyone?”
Naveen Jindal and Nupur Sharma were deserted by the party when they needed its help the most, he said to the Indian Express.
However, an office bearer of BJP’s state unit said that the decision has sent a stern warning. “One cannot cross the Lakshman rekha”, he said. Yet some concede that such concede can cost BJP a section of its most loyal support base. Even then, most leaders opine this to be a “well thought out plan”. The party office had previously warned Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, yet both persisted with their comments. The resutant controversy has undercut BJP’s development agenda. Hence the party dismissed Naveen Jindal and suspended Nupur Sharma, they said.
