CM Adityanath’s remark on ‘population imbalance’ stroke the path for controversy to which Owaisi was quick to respond, says, the Muslims are the ones using most contraceptives.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi counter backs Yogi’s statement via Tweets and as well with an interview with ANI.
Owaisi says that Muslims are the ones using most of the contraceptives.
A United Nations populations report was released Monday saying population of India was projected to surpass China’s population by 2024.
The Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath expressed his concerns over the same. He also mentioned the growing ‘population imbalance’ in the country.
Now, this opened door to controversy, because the CM said that the difference in the growth rates of different religious groups could cause problems, chaos, and anarchy.
He further added that the population growth of one class is more while working on the population control of the mool nivasi which means the natives.
On hearing the statements made by the CM, the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi responded quickly by counter-attacking Yogi’s statement via Tweets and as well with an interview with ANI.
Some of his statements include:
“Muslims in India are not natives? Native Americans are simply Dravidian and tribal people, if we look at reality. Without any laws, the desired fertility rate in Uttar Pradesh would be attained by 2026–2030.”
He further added, “The total fertility rate which was 2.6 in 2016 is now 2.3. Country’s demographic dividend is the best among all countries.”
What experts got to say on population of India
However, Poonam Muttreja, the Executive Director of the Population Foundation of India (PFI) is not worried about the UN report projecting that India is expected to surpass China as the world’s most populous nation by the end of the next year. She has also mentioned that India’s population growth is already declining.
According to the newindianexpress, Mutterja says, “There is no reason to be apprehensive. Fertility rates have already started to decline in India. The population statistics from the Indian Census reveals that the decadal rate of growth between 2001 and 2011 declined to 17.7 % from 21.5 % between 1991 and 2001.”
By 2050, India’s population is expected to reach 166.8 Crore, surpassing China’s 131.7 Crore, according to a UN estimate released on Monday. The report’s findings have sparked a debate about whether India needs to take more action on its population policy programmes in many circles.
The report came at a time when several states like UP, Karnataka, MP, Tripura, Assam, and Uttarakhand have considered laws to control the population growth.
It was also observed that last year UP Law commission released a draft for the Uttar Pradesh Population Bill to encourage families to adhere to the two-child rule
Muttreja emphasized that India does not require any strategy to regulate population growth and said that such a policy would have a negative impact on the underprivileged groups in society who do not have access to child and maternal health services.
The expert furthermore added that India could draw a lesson from China, which had a one-child policy that it subsequently had to relinquish due to a demographic catastrophe.
Lastly, other ministers as well commented on the on-going controversial topic
Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi says that “population explosion” is a problem that affects the entire country.
Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq has drawn attention with his most recent remarks, in which he responded to remarks made by Yogi Adityanath, about population control and the prevention of an “imbalance” while managing a region’s population.
He stated this to reporters on Monday, July 11: “It is up to the Almighty to give birth. When Allah gives a kid, the risk that goes along with him is likewise sent by the Almighty.”
Well, it’s still a long way to go. What are your thoughts on the counterargument of Owaisi; and Adityanath’s remark on the recent report of the UN on India’s population?
