The Delhi Police reported on Sunday that Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma was detained and given bail last month for allegedly slamming his car into the official vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
On February 22, the incident occurred. According to police, Sharma was detained the same day and released on bail by the case’s investigating officer.
The allegations suggest the circumstances of the arrest are “exaggerated,” according to a Paytm spokeswoman.
The complainant, constable Deepak Kumar, who was driving DCP Benita Mary Jaiker’s car, alleged in the FIR that the incident occurred while he and constable Pradeep were travelling from Hauz Khas to a petrol pump in Malviya Nagar.
The FIR added that as they arrived at gate number 3 of Mother International School on Aurobindo Road, constable Kumar slowed down the car because people had gathered there to hand off their children.
Meanwhile, a rear-end collision occurred between the complainant’s vehicle and a blue luxury car with a Haryana registration number. Suman Nalwa, Delhi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), said the driver of the offending car fled the scene along with the vehicle.
On the same day, police stated, a case under section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code was registered in response to Kumar’s allegation.
In the course of the investigation, the offending car was identified, and the driver of the vehicle, Sharma, was detained and released on bail. Both vehicles were impounded and inspected mechanically, according to Nalwa.
The Paytm spokeswoman stated in a statement, “In conjunction with an alleged minor motor vehicle accident, a complaint was made. In the aforementioned occurrence, no one or property was harmed “.
In addition, the spokesman noted that “although the complaint against the car was for a small crime under a bailable provision of law, and all essential legal requirements were satisfied on the same day,” the nature of the arrest was exaggerated in the media.
