The PIL is against the commercial use of the Late Pramod Mahajan Sports Complex in the Kandivali west area of Mumbai for hosting the festival of Navratri with Falguni Pathak for 10 days.
To be a part of this event, the ticket ranges from Rs 800 to ₹4200. The Journalist came to know about the event to be held from September 26 to October 5 and filed a PIL in court.
The Playground should always remain open for the Public at large and should not be exploited commercially by any third party.
In case it is used for any other purpose than its original purpose and in the present case, if it is used for musical event/Navratri Utsav then the said Playground should be kept open for Public at large and at free of cost,” the plea said. (Indian Express reported)
The plea also highlights the Supreme Court and High Court have laid guidelines for the use of playgrounds but the authorities are misusing their power and are giving permission for the hosting of commercial events. (Hindustan Times reported)
