He achieved this feat in just 126 balls, taking his total to 210 off 131 deliveries against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The 24-year-old batsman scored 150 off boundaries alone. Double Centuries in ODI’S
Sachin Tendulkar- India vs South Africa
Cricketing ace, Sachin Tendulkar, smashed the first-ever double century in ODI’s against South Africa 12 years ago in 2010. Upon doing this, he also smashed the previously held record of the highest individual score in ODI cricket held by Saeed Anwar. It was raining boundaries as Tendulkar smashed the protea’s bowlers out of the park, hitting 25 fours and three biggies. After the master blaster breached the iconic landmark, former player and commentator, Ravi Shastri stated that he was superman from India. We don’t think the world will ever see a batsman talented as this man, although Virat Kohli might break his record of 100 centuries.
Martin Guptill- New Zealand vs West Indies
March 21, 2015, was an ordinary day for everyone, but not for New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill as he struck an unbeaten 163-ball 237. This was during the World Cup quarter-final match against West Indies. His amazing 237 was the second-highest, lagging behind Rohit Sharma. His double century helped the Kiwis to notch up a mammoth 393 in 300 balls as opposed to a sluggish 250 in 30.3 overs posted by the Caribbean team. The right-hander managed a whopping 24 boundaries and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 145.40.
Rohit Sharma- India vs Sri Lanka
Indian Batter Rohit Sharma lived up to his name, ‘hitman’, as he smashed a scintillating double ton against Sri Lanka eight years ago in 2014. Sharma lit up the Eden Garden with a record-breaking 264 off just 173 deliveries. His double ton came with 33 boundaries and nine glorious maximums. The Mumbai Indians skipper set the record for the highest individual score in the short format. In the process, Sharma surpassed his compatriot, Virender Sehwag’s 219. Rohit Sharma went on to become the only batter to score three double tons in ODI’s, with 209 the previous year and then an unbeaten 208 after three years
Chris Gayle- West Indies vs Zimbabwe
The Universe Boss, Chris Gayle, achieved an incredible feat by scoring 215 runs against Zimbabwe in during their 2015 ICC World Cup meeting. It took him just 147 balls to accomplish the feat. During the innings, he recorded 10 fours and a mammoth 16 maximums. The southpaw’s double century helped him record a mind-blowing 372-run stand with fellow batsman Marlon Samuels, who also scored a century that day.
Fakhar Zaman- Pakistan vs Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe fell victim to yet another 200 posted by Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman in 2018 as he smashed an unbeaten knock of 210. It took the 32- year old 156 deliveries for him to achieve this remarkable milestone. With this, Zaman also reached another milestone, becoming the first Pakistani batsman to score a double ton in ODI history. His blistering innings was studded with 24 fours and five sixes. Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq built a 304-run stand that guided Pakistan to a well-deserved 399.
Getting a double-ton is an emotional moment, especially when you play for your country and Rohit Sharma did it thrice.
