Uttar Pradesh: A sixth expressway is on the cards for the fastest growing state of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway from Chitrakoot to Etawah on 16th July.
Bundelkhand, the most backward area of the country, will now be connected directly to the country’s capital via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Yamuna Expressway.
This opens up a number of opportunities for small businessmen and also for students who wish to study in better institutions but could not afford to live far away from home. As the travel time for the people travelling between Delhi and Chitrakoot has been reduced to merely 6 hours than the traditional 9-10 hours.
Infrastructural development is one of the major factors in boosting the economy due to increased connectivity. Therefore this project will be a boon for the people of Bundelkhand as new opportunities will be provided to them.
The Bundelkhand expressway is significant to the success of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh defence corridor project and has been completed in record time.

The work on the Expressway has been completed within 28 months and it will now be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.”

It is a 296 km four-lane expressway that has been constructed at a cost of around ₹14,850 crore. The construction was supervised by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). It can later be expanded upto six lanes too.
The expanse of the expressways lies between NH-35 at Gonda to Kudrail. It is here that it merges with Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah are the districts covered by this pathway, upgrading the obsolete roadways with a state-of-the-art expressway.

Creation of employment opportunities, boost in economy, rise in income per person and the GDP of the nation on the whole will all be impacted as these small towns now become a part of the bigger picture.
Although the total cost of the project is pegged at about Rs 15,000 crore, the Yogi Adityanath government saved about Rs 1,132 crore as they opted for e-tendering.
Next in line is an industrial corridor in the districts of Banda and Jalaun. Another project at hand under the UP government is the aspirational defence corridor project which has cost the government a whopping Rs. 20,000 crore. It has been planned over 5,071 hectares across several cities of the state.
Of the 13 expressways spanning 3,200 km in the state, six are operational while work is on in seven. Industrial corridors are being built along highways and expressways. Airstrips are coming up for emergency use by the air force.
“Not even two expressways had been completed in Uttar Pradesh in the first 70 years since Independence. With a series of expressways, including the Delhi-Meerut expressway, the present government of double engine growth in the state has fulfilled a decades-old demand of the people of NCR (National Capital Region) and western Uttar Pradesh,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.
