Pratik Gandhi talks about working with Hansel Mehta again and sharing screen space with the Legendary Tanuja in freshly released Modern Love series.
Modern Love has switched its focus to India’s Maximum City after bringing some heartwarming stories of love and longing from New York. Modern Love Mumbai, the first instalment of the anthology series, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video today in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Pratik Gandhi, who starred in Scam 1992, is going to play the lead in Baai, which is part of this anthology.
Hansal Mehta directs the film, in which he plays a closeted gay man who struggles to tell his grandmother, whom he affectionately refers to as Baai. Chef Ranveer Brar makes his acting debut in this episode, while senior actor Tanuja will play the titular character.
Pratik described Baai as a “delicate story” about love without boundaries in an interview with IndianExpress.com. Many people were astonished to see the trailer, which portrays the actor in a totally different light than previous roles.
“That’s the fun part. As an actor, we want to experiment. Also, I enjoy expressing complex human emotions. We don’t get such roles often and the idea of breaking the barriers in the audience’s mind was so exciting. The perception that I have, no one really expected me in this kind of a role.”
Working with Hansal Mehta again felt like going home to the actor, who described it as a “dream.” “I never felt the pressure, and it was a smooth ride with him.”
Pratik described Tanuja as “She is what charisma is described as. She just lights up the screen. The first scene that we had together, we had to go up almost four flights of stairs. The building was without a lift and quite old, with steep stairs. I thought she must have got tired but as the camera started rolling, her energy level was on a different high. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her.”
Modern Love Mumbai will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting May 13th.
