Delhi High Court refused to entertain a plea in which the petition was to change the title of the film ‘Prithviraj, which stars Akshay Kumar in the title role. The film is based on Prithviraj Chauhan, the legendary ruler of Delhi.
On Monday, the High Court turned down a request to change the title of Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar’s upcoming film Prithviraj, which Yash Raj Films are producing. The petitioner’s attorney requested permission to withdraw the plea after a bench comprising Chief Justice D N Patel. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna indicated it would dismiss the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with costs.
The petitioner was given unconditional permission to withdraw his plea. The petitioner, Rashtriya Pravasi Parishad, said that Samrat Prithviraj was a great ruler. Referring to the film solely as Prithviraj offends the public’s sensibilities that the title should be changed to more appropriate.
The plea suggested that the movie’s name be modified as Great Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan. It claimed that using the great warrior’s name without respectful prefixes contradicts the Cinematograph Act. The court refused to entertain the plea.
The upcoming film is a biopic of famed warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan, and the plot centres around the First Battle of Tarain, in which he battled Muhammad of Ghor’s soldiers.
Akshay had stated in a press release that the film is a tribute to the KingKing. He said how the KingKing was a legend; he also talked about his bravery. Concluding the statement, He said that the team had made an honest attempt to showcase the life of the KingKing.
Prithviraj is directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi and will release worldwide on June 10, 2022. It also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles. The film was supposed to be released in January but was postponed due to the restrictions due to Covid-19.
