Delhi Capitals are all set to host the defending champions Gujarat Titans ahead of their clash at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium today i.e. on 4th April 2024. The tournament opener CSK vs GTÂ went in favor of Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans as they played it like the champions. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Delhi Capitals were seen struggling in the absence of their skipper Rishabh Pant as they were stumbled by the Lucknow Super Giants in their opening match.
Saurav Ganguly, Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket, said optimistically that the team knows how to bounce back and will do that in their upcoming match. The hosts have problems as their batting line-up has weakened due to the absence of Rishabh Pant. But on a good note, the South African Pacers Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi are available after returning from their international duty. They would be providing the pace to the Delhi Capitals which was missing in their last match.
Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the South African pacers have made themselves available for selection ahead of their clash against Gujarat Titans. Although the attacking trio of Delhi Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, and Mukesh Kumar were not that successful yet they were backed by the team. Now that their pacing fire is back and it’s a home match for Delhi Capitals they would want to make the most out of it to end up on the winning side of the match.
Not just Delhi Capitals but Gujarat Titans were also missing their Protea player David Miller as he was away fulfilling his national duty. Miller has recently joined the squad and made himself available for the selection ahead of their match. With Kane Williamson’s knee injury, he has been ruled out of the IPL 2024. So the addition of the prolific six-hitter David Miller to the squad will only give a massive boost to the team which is already a solid-looking team. David Miller was the leading run scorer for the Gujarat Titans last year, with 481 runs in 16 matches with an unbeaten 94 being the highest score.
Gujarat Titans have that winning momentum which makes them a level-up from the hosts. But Delhi Capitals is known for its fighting spirit and would surely be looking to bounce back as it is their home ground. Also, speculations are made that the regular Skipper and Wicketkeeper Batter of Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant, who is currently recovering from the injuries sustained during a car accident last year, will be seen at the stands in support of Delhi Capitals.Â
Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium is a small ground, so teams prefer to chase there, and numbers suggest that out of the 11 matches, since 2019 were played here, eight were won by the chasing team. And out of those 8 matches, 4 matches had 170+ targets.
