PS1, the highly anticipated first instalment of a two-part multilingual film based on Kalki’s classic Tamil novel “Ponnyin Selvan”, directed by Mani Ratnam and co-produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, will hit theatres this year.
The filmmakers have released a fascinating first look at this massive image. The story is based in the 10th century, during the turbulent times in the Chola Empire when the hunger of power struggles between rival branches of the ruling clan caused a bitter division between the successors.
The Potential of the reigning king. This is an action movie starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others.
Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions unveiled some of the first posters on Wednesday, revealing the looks of Ponnyin Selvan’s main cast. Â In one poster, Vikram is seen on a horse trying to retrieve a royal sword from the ground.
Karthi is dressed as a magician in another sign, and he seems to be performing exceptionally well. Yet another poster shows Aishwarya Rai Bachchan like royalty, exuding elegance, grace and bravery.
We see Trisha as a young and filled with happiness princess. The poster of Jayam Ravi is also shared, whereas a warrior prince is kneeling with his bloody sword in the middle of a battlefield. Ponniyin Selvan will be released in splitting into two parts.
The first part will release in theatres on September 30 of this year. The film is based on the epic period novel written by the famous writer Kalki Krishnamurthy. The five-volume book Ponniyin Selvan tells the story of Arulmozhi Varman,who eventually became Rajaraja Chola I.
The king built the magnificent Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, one of the most significant temples in India. It is said that most of the film’s budget was used to recreate the majestic temples built during this period, as filming inside the temples that are related to history in Tamil Nadu is not allowed.
With music by Oscar-winning actor AR Rahman, it will be the film leased in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
