First Year MBBS students allege seniors of ragging which also included performing unnatural sex with pillows.
Medical Freshers at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical(MGM) College have reported cases of ragging, molestation and abuse by the college’s seniors.
These first-year students who had just entered the college to study complained that they were being coerced to do unlawful acts. They were compelled to do so by third-year seniors.
They reported that they were asked to perform sexual acts with pillows and also do mischievous activities with their female counterparts.
Case Revealed
The incident was revealed when students filed a complaint after coming back from the incident. These junior MBBS students lodged a complaint with the Anti-Ragging Helpline of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Juniors avowed that Seniors compelled them to do sexual acts with pillows and perform unnatural sex. They then also inquired about the name of any female batchmate and made indecent remarks about her.
Further Action
After the filed report, University Grants Commission(UGC) at once came into operation. The UGC immediately apprised the Dean of the MGMMC about the incident and a complaint was lodged asking him to file an FIR.
Thereafter, the matter was taken to the police for initiating appropriate actions against those students who were involved(Third Year medical students).
“An aggrieved student had complained to the UGC’s anti-ragging helpline a few days ago. Following this, a meeting of the anti-ragging committee was convened immediately on receiving the mail. The committee endorsed an FIR and a letter was sent to the police”, stated Dr. Sanjay Dixit, the Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College.
The case was filed at Sanyogita Ganj Police Station.
In charged Police Officer at the Station, Tehzeeb Qazi said “We have registered a case of ragging on the complaint of MGM College.” Also adding that 8 to 10 students have been booked under different sections 294, 323,506 of the Anti-Ragging Act.
“We have collected the information about the senior and junior students and also served notices to some students for questioning. Investigation in the matter is still undergoing”, he said.
Police in Action
After the reported grievance, the police identified the students which included both seniors as well as junior students.
Nine suspected senior students who were involved were identified by the police.
First-year MBBS students were also sent a notice to be enquired about the incident. This notice was sent under Section 161 of CrPC to be interrogated about the incident.
The inquiry was set up to identify the students who were witnesses and who were victims at the time of the shocking incident.
MGM College in Action
After the complaint, college authorities came into action. The college provided the details of all those students who were involved in this. Information about both victims as well as accused students was provided to the police, under Section 91.
Addressing the media, Dean Dixit said “We are also taking steps to strengthen the direct communication with the students while complaint boxes were already placed in various places of the college and hostel premises for the same”.
College authorities are also taking precautionary measures to cease such types of acts in the college in the coming future.
Accusations
Junior students accused the seniors for giving physical and mental torture. They were not oly compelled to do unnatural sex but also abuse the female freshers of the batch.
Seniors also commented on the female freshers.
They judged and criticised them on the basis of body, figure and skin colour. These types of activities are mentally disturbing which also made them to think suicidal thoughts too, the complaint read.
