Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of his policies, saying they destroyed the Indian economy
On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that we need to do a lot of work, so we can bring our country’s economy into a stable position. He accused PM Narender Modi’s regime at the centre of having weakened our economy through their wrong decisions.
Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Adoni
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yata reached Adoni. There, he responded to all the questions from the media and said that the strength of our economy had been completely destroyed by the BJP’s policies. It was not just a question of the dollar price, Rahul later added.
“The thought of a strong and weak rupee, whether it is good or bad… that’s a different thing. But the main question is: what did you think about the Indian economy?,” Gandhi remarked.
We have to keep in mind that a strong rupee has both advantages and disadvantages, Gandhi said.
The Wayanad MP said small and medium businesses and having a strong agriculture sector are the main factors in creating jobs in the Indian economy.
Also, added that the decision of demonetisation and GST had destroyed the Indian economy. Many small businessmen got bank corrupted and many left their businesses. And, that the ability to create jobs has been completely crippled.
At the time of demonetisation, there was a huge transfer of wealth taken from the poor and middle class and handed to the rich business people.
“This could not be a coincidence that the world’s third richest man is the close associate and friend of our Prime Minister Narender Modi. Everyone knows how he became the third richest man in the world.” Gandhi said this in an indirect reference to businessman Gautam Adani.
“People don’t understand that the money is always transferred from farmers, small businessmen, and the middle class into the hands of these very rich people. The rich people have access to the banking system of the country, while the farmers or small businessmen can’t even access their own money. The rich businessmen can take unlimited debts. This system has completely crippled our economy.” Rahul Gandhi said
The congress leader recalled his yatra in Ballari in Karnataka and said it was known as the ‘jeans’ capital of India.
“This is a big asset for India. If the government opens the doors of the banks and provides them with sufficient loans to the jeans industry in Ballari, then these entrepreneurs can create lakhs of jobs,” he said.
“Our government needs to shift its focus from two or three big businesspeople to the small businessmen who actually create jobs,” he added later.
Congress will bring “one simple tax”
If Congress voted to power, then it would introduce a new GST that would be “one simple tax”, he said.
“We will bring a GST that actually simplifies people’s lives. We will always take care of all small and medium businessmen. After that we will make a decision,” he promised.
He said the Congress was always opposed to the basic design of (existing) GST. He accused that the BJP has “imposed” GST without any conversation with the states.
“They have forcefully applied five different stages of GST which exist nowhere else in the world, except in India,” he said.
