Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will present the third positive indigenization list of defense equipment on Thursday, advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’
The third positive indigenization list was released today by the Ministry of Defense, promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition for Atmanirbhar Bharat. The defense minister indicated in a tweet that this third list builds on the 101-item first list and the 108-item second list, both of which were released in 2020 and 2021.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the third list builds on the first, which had 101 items, and the second, which had 108 items and was released on August 21, 2020 and May 31, 2021, respectively.
Among the major products on the first list are the 155mm/39 Cal Ultra-Light Howitzer, Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-IA – Enhanced Indigenized Content, conventional submarines, and communication satellites GSAT-7C.
The second list includes the next-generation Corvette, Land-Based MRSAM Weapon System, Smart Anti-Field Weapon System (SAAW) Mk-I and Onboard Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS) based integrated life support system for fighter aircraft, and 1000HP Engine for Tank (T-72).
On the third list, there will be 100 items. Complicated equipment and systems that are currently being developed and are expected to result in substantial orders over the next five years are included.
According to the Defense Ministry’s announcement, orders worth more than Rs 2,10,000 crore are expected to be placed on the industry in the next five years as part of the third list’s categories.
The notification will cover over 300 sophisticated commodities, ranging from complex weaponry systems to critical platforms like armored vehicles, combat planes, submarines, and so on.
Since the first and second lists were released, the Armed Forces have signed contracts for 31 projects worth Rs53,839 crore. Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) for 83 projects worth Rs 1,77,258 crore have been approved. In addition, cases totaling 2,93,741 crores will be processed over the next five to seven years.
The notification of the third list will supply international-standard equipment to meet the needs of the Armed Forces.
