- A complaint has been made against Ram Gopal Varma in relation to a contentious tweet against Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.
- Ram Gopal Varma, a Bollywood filmmaker, subsequently explained that his Twitter tweet was “not in any way intended to damage anyone’s sensibilities.”
Draupadi Murmu, a candidate for the NDA in the 2022 presidential elections, filed her nomination papers in Parliament today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials of the Union cabinet, and the chief ministers of the states governed by the BJP and NDA all attended the nomination submission. If Draupadi Murmu wins the presidential election, she will be the country’s first tribal leader. The candidacy of Draupadi Murmu looked to unify the entire NDA, including the BJP. The Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states were present to support Draupadi Murmu’s candidacy. BJD leader Naveen Patnaik and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy have both endorsed Draupadi Murmu. Draupadi Murmu is expected to be elected president as a result of this.
A comment to strike a controversy.
Ram Gopal Varma, the filmmaker whose tweets frequently get him in trouble, has sparked a new controversy. A lawsuit has been filed against him over a contentious tweet about Droupadi Murmu, the BJP’s presidential candidate, that included a ‘Mahabharata’ allusion.
“Who are the PANDAVAS if DRAUPADI is the PRESIDENT? And, maybe most significantly, who are the KAURAVAS?” read through his tweet
“She has been nominated by the NDA administration, and by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi ji,” Reddy said, defending the prominent tribal leader and former Governor of Jharkhand. Murmu is India’s first prominent tribal female presidential contender. She will be India’s first tribal President and the country’s second female President if elected. She might also become the state of Odisha’s first President.
Gudur Narayana Reddy, a Telangana BJP leader, filed a complaint against Mr Varma over the tweet, accusing him of demeaning the SC/ST community. “The police have told us that they would take harsh measures against him, and I don’t believe he will tweet or make such a horrible comment about anyone again,” he continued.
Soon after, the filmmaker provided a clarification: “Draupadi from the Mahabharata is my favourite character, but because the name is so uncommon, I only recalled the connected characters and therefore my reaction. It was never intended to damage anyone’s feelings “.
This was mentioned just for irony and was not intended in any other manner…
Draupadi from the Mahabharata is my favourite character, but because the name is so uncommon, I only recalled the connected characters and therefore my expression. It was never intended to damage anyone’s feelings.
Some other BJP MLA representing Telangana slammed Ram Gopal Varma, claiming the director tweets in a “drunken condition.” “Varma constantly attempts to make headlines by making such outrageous remarks,” he continued.Â
Furthermore, this wasn’t the only first instance Ram Gopal Varma has been involved in a social media controversy.
Mr Varma recently intervened in a dispute between Bollywood star Ajay Devgn and Kannada actor Sudeep Sanjeev regarding Hindi being the national language, which was a discussion on Twitter between Bollywood actor-director Ajay Devgn and Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep about Hindi’s position as “Rashtriya bhasha” has prompted Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and previous Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take Sudeep’s side. However, the feud also sparked outrage in remote Punjab as well. Later, the hashtag #HindiIsNotANationalLanguage began trending on Twitter, and the platform was swamped with jokes. In a tweet, he accused Bollywood stars of being “insecure and envious” of their southern peers’ success.
