A scene from the trailer for the Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar has landed the film in legal hot water, and the producers are considering legal action. According to a report on Live Law, a non-governmental organization (NGO) called Youth Against Crime has filed a complaint with the Delhi High Court against Jayeshbhai Jordaar over the depiction of a prenatal sex-determination scene in the trailer.
In the trailer, there is a scene in which Shalini Pandey’s character goes to see a gynecologist with her mother and father. During the sequence, the character played by Boman Irani, who is the family’s patriarch, inquires the doctor about the gender of the baby because he wishes for Ranveer to have a son. As the trailer goes on, Ranveer asks the doctor about the baby’s gender, to which she gives him a code that says it’s a female fetus.
Although the film deals with the subject of female foeticide and raises awareness about Save the Girl Child, the petition filed by advocate Pawan Prakash Pathak asserts that the trailer promotes the use of ultrasound technology for sex selection, which is against the law and prohibited under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, and thus violates the law.
“The ultrasound clinic scene,” according to the report, “where the technology of ultrasound for sex selection is being advertised openly without censorship, and as per sections 3, 3A, 3B, 4, 6, and 22 of the PC & PNDT Act, the same is not allowed and hence the instant PIL.”

While speaking at the trailer launch for the film, Ranveer admitted that he had learned about the serious issue of female infanticide that exists in real life. “It was something we were taught in school.” In Divyang’s words, “It’s a tragic and unfortunate reality that these things happen, and they’re social ills that are still prevalent, and Divyang has attempted to bring awareness to them and tell people about them in his own way.”Â
In addition to Yash Raj Films and Maneesh Sharma, the film will be directed by debutant filmmaker Divyang and will be released later this year.
The movie is set to release in theatres on May 13th. Go check out the trailer!
