Ratan Tata, during an event to welcome Prime Minister in Assam, professed to dedicate his last years to health care of India.
The Tata Group chairman, Mr. Ratan Tata inaugurated the seven states of the Art Cancer Centres in Assam. He was accompanied by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi.
While giving a speech at the event, Ratan Tata made a very rare statement. He stated that he wishes to dedicate his last years in serving the health care sector of India. He said, “I dedicate my last years to health. Make Assam a state that recognizes & is recognized by all.”
Tata also mentioned that today will mark the most important day in the history of Assam. “This day will raise Assam in the standards of healthcare and treatment of Cancer. This was made possible through the contribution of Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma and our honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi”, he said.
He further added that Mr. Prime Minister and his government have achieved great progression. “It’s humbling to realize that today’s event is the result of his advanced thinking, and I take tremendous pride in that. Assam can demonstrate to the rest of the world that India’s smallest state is capable of providing world-class cancer care.”
Ratan Tata outlined the Tata Group’s plans to improve Assam’s healthcare system
The Tata group has assured to set up multiple medical facilities in the state, for cancer treatment. Ratan Tata said that the 17 medical facilities will prove to be the largest network under cancer control model of Tata Trusts. Further, the facility has the capability to serve 50,000 people and not just from Assam, but from other neighbouring states too.
Furthermore, he unveiled a plaque in front of the centre along with Assam Governor, Jagdish Mukhi and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma was also present.
The Assam Cancer Care Foundation is an initiative by the Assam Government in collaboration with Tata Trust. Out of the 17 medical hospitals, 10 will be constructed under Phase 1. Out of which 7 are constructed and 3 are under construction. Under Phase 2, 7 more hospitals will be constructed.
7 of the cancer treatment centres are located in Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, and Jorhat. For the rest of the centres, PM Modi laid the foundation stone in Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, and Golaghat.
