The recent ransomware attack, cyber-attacks while Russia and Ukraine crises there is a need to take a fresh look at the way security systems of India. In this regard on Sunday 13 March, PM Modi calls a high-level meeting to review the current global scenario and India’s security preparedness in the border areas as well as in the maritime and air domain amid the unending conflict of Russia and Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by several Cabinet ministers, such as Rajnath Singh (Defence Minister), Ajit Doval (National Security Advisor), S Jaishankar (External Affairs Minister), Harsh Vardhan Srhingla (Foreign Secretary), and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. According to official sources, the cabinet committee on security emphasized the latest technology in the security apparatus and to make India self-reliant in the defense segment so that it not only strengthens our security but also adds to the economy. meeting PM Modi also informed of the assessment whether the circumstances of Ukraine and Russia would go up.
In the meeting, The Prime Minister was briefed about earlier ‘operation ganga’ in which India has been able to rescue approximately 20000 Indians and some citizens of the neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal by special evacuation flights.
The Indian defense ministry said on Friday that the 18 most important platforms including unmanned aerial systems, naval ship-borne, and lightweight tanks were acknowledged for their design and development by the private sector. In addition, two platforms are planned to be developed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model, the ministry confirmed in a statement.
Nuclear strength, missiles such as anti-satellite weapons, anti-ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missile, AI-based land robot, hypersonic glide vehicle, unmanned autonomous, 127 mm naval gun, electric propulsion (engines) for ships and standoff airborne jammer, and more boosting the Indian defense system.
Strength of Indian defense
The Indian Armed Forces comprise of three divisions – the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force. According to the Global FirePower (GFP) report, India has the fourth most-powerful military. And also has the third-largest defense budget in the world. India record number two in the list of the largest armies in the world with a force of 1.45 lakh active military manpower. The approximate budget of Indian defense is 71 Billion dollars, which ranks India as the 3rd largest after the US and China. The Indian Air Force not only safeguards Indian territory and national interests from all threats but also make available support during natural calamities
The continuing Ukraine and Russia conflict might have a bigger knock-on on most of the important equipment and maintenance support. Because India gets their military spares like gas turbine engines of ships, weapon systems, tanks, and guns from Ukraine, while sixty percent of military hardware that forms the mainstay of the Army, Navy, and the Indian Air Force is brought by Russia.
