Although it’s been a month since the crisis of Covid cases ended, in recent reports, it has been observed that covid cases are again on the rise, which is also a new strain that has mutated again.
According to reports, India saw fresh 1000 news cases within a single day after 129 days. Current active cases in India are 5915 according to the Union health minister.
On the other hand, the forum that studies virus variation also known as INSACOG has reported that a total of 76 samples of new Covid variant XBB 1.16 has been found.
The official data has shown that these samples were found in Maharashtra, Delhi, Puducherry, Gujarat, Odisha, and Himachal Pradesh. The highest number of cases have been found in Maharashtra and Karnataka, Tamil Nadu.
“There are a few states which are reporting higher numbers of cases indicating the possible localized spread of infection,” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has informed.
While comparing the data of only the last week, a steady rise in positive cases has been observed. The positivity rates in all these states vary from 1.11% to 2.77% where the highest increase in cases has been from 493 to 604 in Karnataka.
In the span of the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 5,30,802. The most fatal cases were in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerela, and Tamil Nadu. The infection tally is at 4.46 crores which was updated by the ministry last at 8 am today. A recent death case was reported in Pune where a 73-year-old man died from the same infection.
Due to season changes, people are already being attacked by numerous kinds of viruses, which are all variants of influenza. But now with the rise of Covid virus, the flu surrounding us is becoming dangerous. Both state and central governments have issued an advisory to urge people to practice hygiene. Most importantly the people who are more in the risky zone are the children and elderly. They need to take care of themselves more.
While both influenza and covid have very similar symptoms, it is important to differentiate between the two. Fatigue, cough, headache, and sore throat are some of the common symptoms.
Also, clinically, it is difficult to differentiate the two. While flu can cause high fever, body ache, and myalgia, the new strain of covid is showing the same symptoms as before which are sore throat and runny nose. But also, the sure way of detecting this new covid is with the help of RT-PCR test. Although covid is taking 3-4 days to show the symptoms of infection, it is still contagious for at least one week.
Most of India’s population has dealt with the pandemic in the worst of situations and yet they have survived with the help of strong immunity and precautions taken by them. They must continue to do the same for both Covid and influenza.
If the symptoms can be spotted early, they will be easy to treat it easily, and a crisis can be avoided. The health minister has advised that whether it’s the children, adults, or the elderly, everyone needs to keep wearing masks and take all the precautions we used to take during the pandemic.
