Virat Kohli become just the second player in the world cricket after Ross Talyor to play 100 matches in all three formats
During the exciting Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan on Sunday (August 28) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, former India skipper Virat Kohli added to his already impressive list of accomplishments by playing 100 T20 Internationals for Team India.
By accomplishing this feat, Kohli becomes the first Indian to reach the incredible milestone of playing 100 more games in each of the game’s three formats. The great New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor is the first player to reach the milestone, and the Indian batting sensation is the second. This year, Taylor announced his retirement from international cricket.
Taylor congratulated Kohli on his achievement and welcomed him to the exclusive club through his Instagram on Monday, August 29. The former Black Caps legend said he is looking forward to watch Kohli play for a number of years.
“Congratulations @virat.kohli on your 100th T20 game for India. Welcome to the club. I look forward to watching many more of your games in the years to come!,” wrote Taylor on his Instagram account.
The message was quickly noticed by Kohli, and he replied, “Thanks Rosco. Some vintage pictures in there. Hope you and the family are well my man.’
AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, among others, sent congratulations to Kohli for playing 100 T20I games. Everyone at Royal Challengers Bangalore, including De Villiers, who shared a dressing room with the great batter, expressed pride in the 33-year-old.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my very good friend Virat Kohli on becoming the first Indian cricket player to play 100 matches across all three formats. What an amazing achievement, Virat. We’re all very proud of you and all the very best in your 100th T20 international game. We will be watching you,” said De Villiers.
Talking about the match, Kohli scored a good 35 in 34 balls to help India secure a thrilling five-wicket victory. With two balls left, the Men in Blue completed a victory in what was a classic match between the two bitter rivals.
For the Indians, Hardik Pandya stole the show with an outstanding all-around effort. Pandya kept his composure after capturing three wickets with the ball and then played an unbeaten knock of 33 in only 17 balls to take the Men in Blue cross the finish line and move significantly toward the Super 4 stage.
