Attack on Zaporizhzhia Plant
In November, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was under threat with more than a dozen blasts around the plant, and concerns were raised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is used to fulfil about a fifth of Ukraine’s electricity needs. It has six Soviet-designed VVER-1000 V-320 water-cooled and water-moderated reactors containing Uranium 235.
The reactors are now shut down as there is a risk that power cuts could overheat the cooling systems in the wake of frequent attacks, and measures have been taken to protect the plant.
Russian President Putin Response
Russian President Vladimir Putin in his meeting at the Conference of International Foreign Policy, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Kremlin has no intention of using nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine and that the narrative of using nukes is propaganda created by the west to secure its superior power.
