It is pretty perplexing to observe that Russian president Vladimir Putin seems unwilling to engage in any diplomatic talks, let alone the entire concept of Diplomacy.
Russiaās unprecedented intrusion into the land of Ukraine has been followed by an extensive military’s āspecial operationā that has led to the building of troops at their shared border.
This has alarmingly raised the panic and tension in the regions directly or indirectly or strategically connected to the two countries, especially the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries.
Whilst a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting to stop the invasion was underway, the attack on the countryās major cities, including their national capital of Kyiv and second-largest city of the country- Kharkiv, never ceased.Ā Ā
Meanwhile, the American President, Joe Biden, and the NATO and European Union (EU) countries decided to imply a severe degree of sanctions on the land of Russia.
These sanctions are an addition to the already imposed economic sanctions on Russia and individuals who have close connections with the country’s political leadership.
These sanctions are expected to put Putin under the radar, isolate Russian banks from the financial system, and stop technology exports.
This move was quite anticipated since Moscow has shown a negligible amount of sympathy or empathy towards Ukraine and is far away from dealing with security issues, not to mention the complete negligence of the subject of ādiplomacyā.Ā Ā
Ever since the tensions have risen, the United States of America, NATO and EU countries have offered diplomatic solutions.
Now the disappointment of western nations can be very well framed out of the inevitable sanctions, but the ācollateral damageā occurring in terms of life and property is unparalleled.
This mass destruction may escalate if the question of NATO is not answered to the Russian President. The heart of the fear lies with Ukraine joining NATO and NATO troops being stationed at the shared border with Russia.
NATOās history suggests this expansion and has fueled the insecurities that have led us to this day.Ā Ā
Unless the western nations assure Russia that NATO shall not expand eastwards, Putin has very little hope to return to the negotiating table.
However, Moscow must realize that mass scale destruction and a full-fledged war are not the solutions to their security question.Ā Ā
